a fun fact about cars

Posted by TheXenderman - August 22nd, 2023

The car was invented in the 14th century. in 1335, Italian engineer and theologan Guido da Vigevano. He invented a windmil powered car to use in the holy crusades. However, They found out that it was impractical after it was built. The second car was a steam powered car back in 1769. Built by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot. The first COMBUSTION engine car, however, was in 1824, in London, an englishman named Samuel Brown converted a steam engine to a combustion engine to go up Shooter's hill. This is a far cry from the 1886 year that everyone seems to "know" is correct.

Correction: The car was NOT invented in 1335. Not even close!!! The FIRST known automobile is a sail carriage at 552 AD in China, built by Gaocang Wushu. It could hold 30 people. So we've been driving cars for 1,471 YEARS!!!! This blew my goddamn mind guys

Correction, the 1335 thing wasn't ever built to the best of my knowledge and 552 ad is more of a myth than a fact, like the rocket chair. However, the car was still invented in 1769 which is way earlier than the 1886 figure
